Before anything else, look at the Bandwidth row. A Laos VPS here comes with a 2 Mbps, 5 Mbps or 10 Mbps port. Those are small numbers compared with most of our locations, and they shape what this server is good for.
What the Laos VPS suits, and what it does not
A VPS in Laos makes sense when your audience is in Laos and you need a Lao IP address. Good fits include:
- a company website, booking page or small shop aimed at people in the country
- an API or app backend that sends short requests rather than large files
- a VPN or proxy endpoint that needs to appear in Laos
- testing how a service behaves for users on Lao networks
It is a poor fit for video streaming, large public downloads or backups pulled across the internet. At 2 Mbps, a 1 GB file takes more than an hour to send. For that kind of work, keep the heavy traffic on another server and use Laos for the local part.
Reading the five plans
Disk is 50 GB on every plan. Memory, cores, port speed and monthly transfer grow as you move up.
- Jupiter ($57): 1 GB of memory, 1 core, 2 Mbps port, 500 GB of transfer.
- Mars ($107): 2 GB, 1 core, 5 Mbps, 1,000 GB.
- Venus ($137): 4 GB, 2 cores, 5 Mbps, 1,000 GB.
- Mercury ($213): 8 GB, 4 cores, 10 Mbps, 1,000 GB.
- Uranus ($333): 16 GB, 8 cores, 10 Mbps, 1,000 GB.
The jump from Jupiter to Mars is the one most people should consider. It more than doubles the port speed and doubles both memory and transfer. Above Mars, the port stays at 5 or 10 Mbps, so Venus, Mercury and Uranus are about processing power rather than throughput. Pick them for databases, background jobs or several containers on one machine, not for serving more traffic.
Transfer is also worth a thought. On Jupiter, 500 GB a month is close to what a 2 Mbps port can move if it runs flat out all month, so in practice the port speed is the limit you will meet first. On the higher plans the 1,000 GB cap is the tighter of the two.
Linux only, with root access
This location is Linux only. Windows Server and MikroTik are not available in Vientiane. Choose from Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux or CentOS, then log in over SSH as root and set the server up your way. The client area lets you reinstall the OS or reboot when needed.
Why host in Vientiane
Vientiane is the capital of Laos and sits on the Mekong, across the river from Thailand. Lao is the main language. The country is landlocked and shares borders with China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar. A Vientiane VPS keeps your service on a local network, which shortens the path for users inside Laos and gives you an address that geolocation checks place in the country.
If you need more capacity for the wider region, our Thailand VPS is the closest option, and our Cambodia VPS and our Myanmar VPS cover two more neighbours. A common setup is a larger server in one of those locations with a small Laos VPS in front of local users.
